THE 10-DAY INTENSIVE:
This shorter residency model utilizes many of the same skills used in the Play Immersion Residency but on a smaller scale. This program focuses on short passages, typically monologues, and takes place over the course of 10 sessions usually meeting with students over two to three weeks.
The same basic skills for reading, speaking and performing the text are introduced, but in less detail than in the Play Immersion Residency model. We provide the opportunity for students to "perform" their work, but on a smaller scale. This project usually lasts about 10-15 minutes.
Past residencies have focused included The Henry Project (with selections from Henry V) and The Hamlet Project (featuring four major speeches from Hamlet), as well as projects focused on Romeo & Juliet (the opening street fight between the Capulets and the Montagues), Julius Caesar (the garden conspiracy scene, and the assassination of Caesar), A Midsummer Night’s Dream (the fairy feud in the woods with Titania, Oberon and Puck, and choral speeches). Other selections can be utilized to fit the needs of a particular school.
Students leave the program with a better understanding of Shakespeare’s text, a variety of new tools with which to navigate unfamiliar and unusual texts, and a greater sense of the power they possess when truly engaging classical language.
Fees generally range between $2500-$5000, based on the number of students participating and the number of sessions. This program is available at any point during the school year.
