SPEAK THE SPEECH WORKSHOP:
In addition to compelling performances, The Shakespeare Theatre also conducts engaging workshops that get students on their feet to perform Shakespeare’s text. While the performances engage, educate, enlighten, and delight, the workshops make the experience more personal. Experiencing the performance and workshop together transforms Shakespeare from mere words in “some old book” to a fun, easily understood, and accessible play.
Educators have been very impressed that, over the course of our 60-90 minute "Speak the Speech" workshops, students are actively engaging in cognitive learning; analysis and extrapolation; phonics; and advanced reading and interpretive skills, while also exploring imagery, allusion, and metaphor, as well as other required subjects in the Student Learning Standards.
Each workshop is conducted by members of the Shakespeare LIVE! company and/or Shakespeare Theatre's artists/educators. Each workshop can accommodate up to 30 students. Many schools will schedule simultaneous workshops in multiple classrooms to accommodate more students.
For more information or to schedule a workshop, please contact the Education Department at Education@ShakespeareNJ.org or call 973-845-6742.
