Exchange & Refund Policy

All ticket sales are final. The Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey does not offer ticket refunds. Exchanges can be made on tickets for a different performance of the same production for a $5.00 Exchange Fee per ticket plus the applicable ticket price difference. These fees are waived for our subscribers. Refunds will not be issued for cancelled performances; however, exchange fees and price differences will be waived. If you are unable to make your chosen performance date, please contact the Box Office for more information.

Main Stage Inclement Weather Policy

In the rare case that it becomes necessary to cancel a show due to extreme inclement weather, the cancellation will occur no later than two hours prior to curtain. The Box Office staff will attempt to contact all ticketholders by email and phone to announce a cancellation and to reschedule tickets for another performance of the same production. We will also make an announcement on social media and on our website. Refunds will not be issued for cancelled performances; however, exchange fees and price differences will be waived.

If you have tickets to the final performance and it is cancelled, the Theatre will provide you with ticket vouchers for one of the upcoming Main Stage shows of your choice.

Outdoor Stage Inclement Weather Policy

It is our desire to complete every performance, and we will make every effort to "raise the curtain" and finish each show despite light rainfall. In the event of heavy rain or winds, however, we may delay the start of the show, or the completion of the show, for up to two 15-minute intervals, in the hope that the weather will clear. Announcements will be made informing audience members of "holds." We may also pause to take precautions to ensure the safety and health of the performers and crew.

If inclement weather necessitates cancelling a show prior to curtain time, that decision will be made at least two hours before curtain. The Box Office staff will contact all ticketholders by email and phone to announce a cancellation and reschedule tickets for another performance of the same production. Announcements will also be made via social media as well as our website. If you have tickets to a cancelled performance, please call the Box Office at 973-408-5600 to reschedule your performance.

If you have tickets to the final performance and it is cancelled, the Theatre will provide you with ticket vouchers for one of the upcoming Main Stage shows of your choice.

Box Office Policies

We encourage patrons to arrive early in order to allow sufficient time for parking.

Latecomers will be seated at the discretion of the House Manager, and only at appropriate intervals. Patrons arriving after a performance has begun will be seated in the Balcony and may move to their regular seats at intermission.

Out of respect for the actors and your fellow audience members:

  • Please turn off all electronic devices before the performance begins.
  • Food and drink are not permitted in the theatre. If you wish to indulge in a wrapped candy, please unwrap it prior to the performance or during intermission. Noisy candy wrappers are a distraction to fellow audience members and the actors.
  • No talking! Please laugh, cry, gasp, or sigh at appropriate points during the performance if you are so moved, but please do not talk during the show.
  • There will be a 15-minute intermission at all Main Stage performances unless noted. After the show’s conclusion, please remain in your seats until the curtain call is over and the house lights come up. We ask this for your safety, for the consideration of all patrons, and out of respect for the actors.
  • The use of cameras and recording devices are strictly prohibited!

Our Main Stage, the F.M. Kirby Shakespeare Theatre, is climate controlled to 68° F for the comfort of the majority of our patrons. We recommend that individuals who are sensitive to air conditioning bring a jacket or sweater, or request to be seated towards the rear of the house where it is warmer.

Seating at our Outdoor Stage is on grass and stone steps. For additional comfort, you may bring your own blanket, seat cushion, or low beach chair, or rent a seat cushion for a nominal fee. Picnics are encouraged!

No babes in arms: All patrons must have a ticket to attend a performance. Babies and children who are not old enough to occupy a seat will not be permitted in the theatre. To find out if a production is age-appropriate for children, please inquire at the Box Office.
